  26. I understand the DC-X will, like the xUUSR Buran shuttle, have
  27. capabilities for both unmanned automatic operation and piloted
  28. operation.  I suspect similar capability is expected for DC-Y and DC-1
  29. should they be built.

  31. Given that the thing can fly automatically, why add pilots?

  33. I'm not sure what manned piloting means in this context, and what it
  34. gains over auto operation; especially since providing space, controls,
  35. seats, life support etc for the pilots is very expensive on the mass
  36. budget.

  38. In what sense is the Shuttle piloted?  What about Apollo?

  40. [I'm not talking here about the capacity to _carry_ people, and I
  41. certainly don't want to start the manned-vs-unmanned flamewars again;
  42. I'm strictly refering to the actual driving of the craft.]
